About Gerard

When I was at school I had to go to the Vocational Guidance officer for advice on a career.
I said that I would like to be an artist.
He gave me some paper and pencil and asked me to draw something.
On looking at the result he advised that I didn’t have much future there.
When I left school, I became a farmer.
Later, I learnt to draw so I could design gardens.
Then the drawing became an end in itself.
I moved on to painting in oil and wrestled and struggled with it until something
appeared with which I was happy, and which pleased some others.
I didn’t really know how I’d done it, but then the work began.
